Ceylon vs Assam Tea: What’s the Difference?

All around the world, people are using tea. Many of them are tea lovers and are addicted to it due to its matchless flavor. It is also used as medicine but now in most countries, it is being used as a beverage. Assam and Ceylon are two famous types of tea and people love to use both but some of them don’t know that these are two different products. So here is a brief difference between both:

Basics of Ceylon and Assam tea

Ceylon is a black tea with different tastes depending upon the area where it grew. It originated from Sri Lanka. Assam is also a black tea that itself gives a malty test but it is usually used in blended form. It originated from India, a city India named Assam is famous for this tea and that’s why it is named Assam tea.

Production and Origin of Ceylon and Assam tea

Ceylon is highly produced in two areas of Sri Lanka i.e. Ruhuna and Dimbula. Ruhuna is an area with fertile soil. The soil here is highly enriched with nutrients and the climate conditions are humid and hot. So because of both favorable characteristics, the tea plants growing here have fast growth. The second area, known as Dimbula is located at a height of 1,250 meters from sea level and is a rocky place. Thus the plants growing here are usually in the form of bushes and need to find favorable conditions and thus grow low in number.

Assam tea however originates from a very fertile area of India, a city located in North East of India named Assam. The city is located near the bank of the river known as the Brahmaputra river and thus it supplies the area with water required for the growth of Assam tea and also makes the soil more nutrient. Thus the tea-growing here is full of nutrition and produced in a large quantity.

Favorable Conditions for Ceylon and Assam tea

Ceylon tea as we already mentioned is growing in two cities. One of them, called Ruhuna, allows the tea plant to pick up and grow throughout the year. While in Dimbula, the favorable conditions for the tea to grow are during January, February, and March. In these months the climate in the specific region is quite warm as required for the right, fragrant growth of the tea plant. Thus in these months, the tea is grown at high rates.

Assam tea growing in the Assam area however finds a very short time of two weeks in June as the climate in this period is hot in India and perfectly suitable for the growth of tea. So the tea is cultivated at a high rate due to this golden period of June.

Tastes of Ceylon and Assam tea

Ceylon tea has a more attractive aroma. This tea is especially so popular because the aroma and sweetness it possesses are matchless around the whole world. Its texture is quite smooth and taking a sip fills up with the feeling of freshness.

Assam tea however has a bold taste. It has a round texture. The taste is mildly sweet and you will love every sip of Assam tea. It fills up strength and warmth. The dried fruit mixed in tea will make you fall in love with Assam tea.

Milk Consumption of Ceylon and Assam tea

Ceylon tea tastes best with less milk so if you are the person loving the tea made up in less quantity of milk, then Ceylon is the best choice you should pick up.

Assam tea requires comparatively more quantity of milk. So if you love the tea with more milk then go for Assam tea as it has an assertive nature that demands more milk.

Some might like the one and the other may like the second and a few like both. People even use the mixture of the two as they want to enjoy the delicious taste of both together.
